Transpersonal therapy

Transpersonal therapy explores experiences of identity, meaning, spirituality and human potential alongside emotional and psychological wellbeing. It can include reflection on values, connection, creativity or states of awareness when these are relevant and welcomed by the client. The therapist works within the person's worldview and keeps the work grounded, respectful and choice-led.

What sessions may involve

Discussing meaning, values, creativity or spiritual experience alongside emotional and practical concerns, only where relevant to the client.

What it may suit

May suit people who want space for questions of spirituality, connection or identity without assuming a particular belief.

Delivery and fit

The therapist should not impose spiritual explanations. Agree boundaries and a plan for grounding if experiences become unsettling.

Evidence and uncertainty

Research is limited and heterogeneous. Transpersonal therapy should not replace assessment or treatment for significant mental-health symptoms.
