The Monolith

A shadow cast by towering stone envelops my inner light,

Greedy glug of starved cold sands sucks moisture from my soul,

Siren’s whale, the raging storm I shiver in its eye,

Rain from the tearing cloud drowns my shallow roots,

Canines tear a devouring chunk from my hollow soul,

I’m eye to eye with the beast and I don’t know why.

Pressure pulsing within the prism of my skull

A black void deep within my soul

A nagging feeling that something’s not right

I sit with the knife but tonight is not the night
